 KHALIJI DYNASTY (1290-1320)

MALIK JALAL-UD-DIN KHALIJI 

     Khaliji dynasty started with the rule of Malik Jalal-ud-din Khaliji (1290 - 1296).

He ascended the throne after murdered Balban's son who belongs to the Mamluk dynasty (Slave dynasty) and Mamluk came to an end. Jalal-ud-din was a trusted commander to the Slave dynasty. He was old, but he achieved victory by standing against the Mongol troops and even resisting their access to India. Jalal-ud-din's relative and son-in-law, Alauddin Khaliji was his commander in general who was also a warrior with so much fierce and valor. Many inscriptions stated the victory of khalijis over other kingdoms. it was an unknown source that stated that Alauddin khiliji murdered Jalal-ud-din.

Alauddin Khaliji, the base founder of the Khaliji dynasty who was known for his moves to capture every kingdom which automatically increased their power and extended their territory. Alauddin ruthlessly plundered everything where he invaded. He was well known for his administration which was followed by the rulers after his death. His administration was a spectacular thing in his rule. Alauddin Khaliji had a commander-in-chief whose name was Malik Kafur who was a pandagan. Pandagan was a system which was prevailed in ancient times which was to buy slaves for money or so.

Some sources believed that Malik Kafur was of Hindu descent. Malik Kafur became Khiliji's trustworthy member. Malik Kafur also invaded more places on behalf of Khiliji
which strengthened the Dynasty. The most important invasion of Kafur viz, Devagiri(1307), Warangal(1309), Devasamuthiram(1310), and Tamilnadu(1311). In Khiliji's administration military men were given the salary. Taq system introduced in horses which means branding them to the dynasty.  He even established a delegation to overseen the market reforms. Thus, the evidence of his wonderful administration. Khiliji's savagely invaded every Rajput kingdom, and even there was an interesting story of Rajput King Rana Ratan Singh and his queen Rani Padmini.  It was said that Rani Padmini was performed Jauhar after hearing the news of her husband Rana Singh's death at the hands of Alauddin Khiliji(1303). It was even started that Rani Padmini performed Jauhar along with approximately 40,000 women.

Alauddin Khaliji died in 1311. After the death of Khaliji, this dynasty met its downfall because Malik Kafur murdered Alauddin's son. Malik Kafur was also murdered by some allies. So the root of the dynasty was lost its ability. And the last king was Kushru Shah. 

Now Tuglaq Dynasty came to the power after Ghyasud-din-Tuglaq who was commander in chief to the last khiliji ruler and murdered him.
