TUGHLAQ DYNASTY
After the decline of Khaliji dynasty, Tughlaq dynasty came into power in 1320 CE.
GHIYAS-UD-DIN TUGHLAQ (1320-1325):
Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq founded this dynasty. His other name was Khazi Malik. He reigned only for nearly five years upto 1325. Khazi Malik died in 1325.
MOHAMED-BIN TUGHLAQ (1325-1351):
After Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq's death, his son Junakhan became the ruler. Junakhan changed his name as Mohamed-bin Tughlaq. He made many expiditions. He defeated warangal ruler and captured it. He brought many changes during his reign. But, it didn't brought him great success. He changed his capital from Delhi to Devagiri. He changed his capital name as Daulahadabad. But it had drawbacks. The capital was in the centre of his empire. So, it had many difficulties. The soldiers who were in boundaries felt difficult in their transport, it had a distance of 1500km and it took 40 days to reach, and Some people even died because of this long distant travel. He issued copper coins. But it was also considered to be a failure. He imposed 'DIWANI-I-AMIR KOHI' system of taxes on Doah people. Doah is a region between rivers. He also imposed a tax or loan system known as 'Taccavi'. The poet 'Baraani' criticised him a lot in his writings. Mohammed-bin-Tughlaq gained reputation as a merciless, cruel king. All his innovations was not succeeded much, but it only decreased the treasury. He died in 1351. Firuz Tughlaq comes next to him.
FIRUZ SHAH TUGHLAQ (1351-1388 CE);
After Mohammed-bin Tughlaq, Firuz shah Tughlaq succeeded the throne. Firuz was the son of Rajab, Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq's brother. His reign was considered to be the peaceful period. He had returned his captured territories back. In this time there were no battles of that much. But, Mongolis invaded two times and got defeated by Firuz. Firuz shah made his invasion to Sind in 1362.
In his period, it was discovered that there were 1200 gardens. From this we could know that he had a great interest in gardening. Some evidence showed that Firuz had renovated 35 old gardens. He created new fields for Widows life. He also given a separate fields for 1.8 lakhs of slaves and encouraged their life. This shows his revolutionary activity. He made many irrigation facilities and gave more importance to Agriculture. He showed more interest in public works and development. Firuz Shah imposed "Jiziya Tax" which should be paid by Non-Muslims. The Agricultural taxes were inheritance tax collection. Firuz Shah was died in 1388 at his 83rd age.
DECLINE OF TUGHLAQ:
Nasir-ud din Tughlaq was considered to be the last king of Tughlaq dynasty. In 1398,
Timur a turkish invaded India and robbed many places of wealth and completely destroyed Delhi.
Thus, it resulted in the destruction of Tughlaq dynasty.
